Removing a squirrel without harming it

Q.  A squirrel has decided that my garage is a better place to hang around in than wherever it was hanging out before! It has been in and out of my garage for the better part of 2-plus weeks. I would like to get it out permanently without harming it. Can you help me on this?

A.  Buy or rent a large Havahart trap, bait it with sunflower seeds and take the little rascal far away and release it in the woods. You should find Havahart traps in hardware stores.

Be aware that a wildlife biologist has told me that displacing any animal — squirrels, mice, etc. — is a death sentence, as they are unfamiliar with the territory and vulnerable to predators since they do not know where the hiding places are. However, predators also need to eat.
