Unneeded gable vents should be covered
Q. In a recent article you advised not to use a gable vent in conjunction with a ridge vent. I recently bought a new house that has both. Should I cover the gable vents?
A. Yes, you should cover the gable vents. If you have access into the attic, screw a piece of plywood painted matte black over the gable vents. I assume that this house has continuous soffit vents and that there is no obstruction blocking the air flow between the soffit and the ridge vents.by
