Mortar and grout spilled on bathtub

Q.    I did something pretty stupid, and now I’m trying to find a solution to reverse my bad choices. I decided to do wall tile around the soaking tub I purchased for my new home. I foolishly neglected to protect the tub, and now it’s chock full of hardened thinset mortar and grout.

Luckily, this is an acrylic tub so I know that ultimately I will be able to return the tub to its full luster. I’m just looking for the best way to remove the mortar and grout. Is there something that will dissolve or loosen these materials without hurting the acrylic?

Or do I need to scrape this stuff off? I experimented a little with a flat blade screwdriver, and I found that often, the stuff will just pop off with a little pressure. But I’m looking for something easier, and I do want to avoid scratches.

A.    The best thing to use is Miracle Sealants Porcelain & Ceramic Tile Cleaner. You can buy it in tile stores. Read directions carefully as improper use may damage your acrylic tub.
