Reducing glare and heat from skylights

Q.    I might be purchasing a home with two skylights in the great room. The skylights face south. I am wondering if the skylights have a filter in them. How or what can be done to reduce glare, warming the room too much etc?  Thank you.

A.    Special glare-reducing films can be applied to the inside surface of skylights. These films also greatly reduce heat transmission.

There are also shades that can be installed and controlled mechanically or electrically. Call a shade shop to have the films applied or the shades installed.
