Basement flooring for seasonal home

Q.  We own a seasonal condo in Maine (read no heat or electricity from Oct-April). We would like to finish the basement but do not know what type of flooring to install. The problem is that people will be constantly crossing this room through a sliding glass door, with bicycles and sandy beach equipment to reach the storage area. Carpet seems impractical. What would you suggest for the floor?

A. You should seriously consider a type of garage floor finish such as Race Deck (www.racedeck.com). There are other brands, so you can shop around on the Internet — one site with a variety of garage flooring options is www.garageflooringllc.com. As you’ll see the products come in sheets, rolls, or tiles — the latter of which are easiest for do-it-yourselfers.

There are many patterns and colors.
