Cats using beach as litter-box
Q. I have a waterfront home with a sandy beach. The cats in the neighborhood have taken to use the beach as a litter box.
I have tried artificial owls and other animals to no avail. I have called animal control to see if they could offer a solution, they could not. One attendant said get a dog. I don’t want to fence in the beach. Can you offer any deterrent I could try?
I don’t know who owns the cats; there are too many neighbors. It’s very easy to spot as cats bury the mess and their claw marks are evident. I don’t want my grandchildren digging in the sand and uncovering it; who knows what a 3-year-old might do with it. Any help you can give me would be appreciated.
A. Now that’s an interesting question! Can you blame the cats for using this giant sandbox?
Cats, as well as a number of other animals, can be deterred with cayenne pepper and equivalent natural plants, but it’s not too practical to do the whole beach.
I am sorry, but you have a tiger by the tail, and I can’t be of much help.by
